First Draft

Title

 Verve Vogue Magazine

So, coming up with the title Verve Vogue Magazine was quite the creative journey! The word "Verve" reflects the energy and enthusiasm I want to bring to my publication. It also captures the vibrant content inside the magazine as well. "Vogue" adds a touch of sophistication and style, hinting at the trendy and fashionable topics my magazine will cover.

What do you guys think? Do you like it? I think it sounds super chic. I am excited to hear what you all have to say about it. My rough draft is coming along and will be posted shortly.

Layout Inspirations

As I have been planning the layout of my magazine, I decided to look at some other magazine layouts to get inspired. Ironically, I loved this winter style layout.

Another one that I chose to include was an autumn style layout. This one has more text, but still plenty of photographs.

The last layout is another look that I like for my magazine. This option gives plenty of space to write the text of my article and gives ample room for photographs. I prefer a bit more color on the pages, but do like this layout.

Hello Ladies!

Ladies...this magazine is for you. I am targeting women from the ages of sixteen to fifty five.  I do not see a lot of men being interested in a fashion magazine. I came up with the age range based on looking at multiple fashion magazines. They all included fashion for most of these ages. The sixteen to eighteen year old women that have a flare for fashion will be really intrigued with this type of magazine. I am seventeen and love to look at new fashion trends as well as all the latest and greatest makeup. My mom is forty nine, loves fashion and looking for ways to dress in a classic chic style. My grandmother who is seventy-seven who is out of my target age, loves fashion, but does not want to spend too much on clothing.

I know that age is not everything when targeting an audience. If you are not a fashion diva then this magazine may not be your cup of tea. For all of you granola nature girls...you are not the ones who I am focusing on to buy this magazine. So my designer queens...I am looking for you!

The other thing I did consider is the price of the magazine. A fashion magazine that is thick can not be super cheap. I need women who are willing to invest in subscribing to my magazine and are able to afford it.

Taking pictures of my friends was not the hard part of my photoshoot. It was the wind blowing and making the outfit not lay right or Harley's hair kept going in her face. My friends and I are always taking pictures of each other and finding the perfect "fit". This seemed very natural to me. Like I said the only challenges I had were due to the wind and occasionally the glare of the sun. The cover shot I got is just perfect! Let's take another look of it.

Isn't this such a great cover shot?!

This picture was taken in the dead heat of summer in Arizona. My sister looks incredible and the background is breathtaking. I bet this picture gets you all excited for summer and that incredible tan we all love to have.

How cute is this dress?! This is a must have and what a great shot this is! I didn't know how it would come out when I took it in front of the rock wall, but wow...it's amazing! The greens in the background complement the picture so well.

Spring Break

Spring break is only days away and I am trying so hard not to get distracted and finish my magazine up. I am off to a great start, but it has been challenging to remain focused 100% when I am leaving for California next week and seeing DRAKE this Sunday.  AHHHH!!!! I am so excited.

My rough draft will be done tonight and I am looking forward for all of you to see my magazine and get your feedback. I have enjoyed making it and hope you all like it as well.

Stay tuned...it will be published before midnight tonight.

Lighting and tone

This cover has muted tones. I love the flowy white fabric that screams summer! The cloudy blue sky definitely gives a hazy summer vibe. The model's makeup looks like a summer fresh natural look. I want my magazine to be a little brighter than this in the background.

This is more how I want my magazine cover to look. The blue water totally captures my attention and takes me to a summer vacation instantly. I do like the white font on the name of the magazine, but I am thinking I want to use Black instead of white. The sky in this cover is not as hazy looking and just shows a crystal blue sky that looks like a perfect day.

Two Page Spread Research

This example has great hair idea images, lots of photographs, text boxes, and examples for different shades of hair color.

I like how this example from Vogue has the story on one side and the captions and photos on the other page.

This Cosmopolitan example is a favorite type of two page spread of mine. I love the busy page with photos, text, label, and captions. It reminds me of a collage.

Ads

Advertisements will be though out my fashion magazine. Most ads will be fashion related. For example, there will be jewelry ads, make up ads, and all different types of beauty products to get inside all of the women's heads that are reading my magazine. Every woman wants better makeup and to perfect their look with looking natural and flawless.

There will be a page or two towards the end of the magazine that will list multiple products and where to get them from.

Grabber

A coverline or a strapline is very important on a magazine to get your reader's attention. There are so many things that mesmerize me in fashion magazines. I am thinking of a few that will make most women want to buy the magazine immediately.

Here are some ideas that I am thinking of:

-10 ways to wear a white t-shirt

-Summer Style Secrets Revealed!

-Trend Alert:  The Hottest Looks of the Season

-Get the Celebrity Summer Look for Less!

-Must Have Accessories for Summer Chic

-Best Summer Dresses Ever!

Get ready for my final decision.

Interview

In order to pick out the most important images for my magazine, I decided to interview a friend of mine that I find to be very fashionable. I asked her questions that relate to the article titles in my table of contents. Below, are screenshots of the interview.

Design

 Hi again...

So, I chose to use Canva for multiple reasons to design my magazine. I had never used Canva before this year...my senior year. I am pretty tech savvy, but had some difficulty navigating and finding thing I could use that didn't cost extra money. After countless frustrating attempts, my mom and I decided to buy the higher version with a monthly cost to make my life easier....thanks Mom!!!!  Some of the problems that occurred while experimenting with Canva was adding text and changing the font. It took me a while to get the hang of it. I think I've got it now. I didn't really watch any tutorials on how to use it. I just took my time and lost my patience quite a bit until I figured the program out. Fortunately, my cousin Lexi used it before and was able to give me a quick lesson.

I have actually enjoyed making different magazine covers and exploring my creative side. I am excited for you all to see my final product. I hope it will be amazing!

Masthead Manifesto

In the high-stakes world of fashion publishing, the masthead isn't just a list. In my opinion, its the ultimate accessory to the magazine's identity. It's where the heart of the magazine beats. Like picking out the perfect outfit, a well-crafted masthead can set the tone for what's beneath the cover.

I browsed through a ton of magazine covers to get inspiration for my masthead and font. Here is my magazine cover with multiple masthead fonts.

I most definitely am choosing my first option. I knew I wanted to use the color black for the font, but I was not sure on which font would catch my eye the most. My first choice looks the most chic and is absolutely perfect! Yay...I am getting there. My magazine is coming along.

What's In It?

Table of Contents...I am planning what photographs will be used for my table of contents of my magazine. I already have my cover photo of my friend Harley. In addition to that picture, I am including a bathing suit shot of my sister Alexa. She not only looks stunning, but her bright blue bikini is to die for. My friend Lyndsey is a fashionista and she will be included in my magazine as well.

This is just a plan of what pictures I will use in my table of contents. It is just a start. I will eventually add the page numbers and text.

Cover Girl

AHHHHH, I am stressed out because I have procrastinated on this project and now it is crunch time. I am finalizing my cover photo. I definitely want a beachy picture used for my magazine cover. Nothing makes me happier than summer time and being at the beach. I decided to use a picture I took of my friend by the beach in a white summery dress that SCREAMS summer.  Wait for it.....

This is the photo that absolutely makes me want a beautiful white summery dress. In fact, I am looking for something similar for my high school graduation. The background is breath taking! My friend Harley looks amazing in this photograph and her friend as well. I took this picture on my iphone 15 Pro Max. I love the haziness in the sky that almost shows the humidity in the picture.

Scan It

Here I am on Sunday ready to talk about barcodes. Magazines have barcodes on the bottom corner that are used for various purposes. They help in tracking sales data, managing inventory, and processing transactions efficiently. Barcodes can also link magazines to digital content such as online articles or multimedia features. I have looked on multiple fashion magazines and the barcode can be on the bottom left or right corner.  Here are some examples of how I want my magazine bar code to look like.

I circled in blue the barcode on the bottom right corner. I highlighted in yellow the barcode in the left corner. I have no preference which side barcode goes on, however, I do prefer being on the left in pictures so I will most likely go with the left side.
